40th Allesley Festival 3rd – 12th July 2015

The 40th Allesley Festival Will Be Painting The Town Red!

Allesley Village is preparing “To Paint the Town Red” as it approaches the 40th, Ruby Anniversary of its Annual Festival – 1975 to 2015.

The birth of the Allesley Festival took place in 1975 when Allesley Primary School PTA organised a Summer Fete with stalls, sideshows and exhibits. It started with a procession from the Lower School (where Norton Grange is situated now) to the Upper School in Antrim Close.

In 1976 the first Festival Committee was set up with Roger Grote as chairman and Mavis Jeffery as Secretary. Roger went on to Chair the Festival for 10 years and remained as a Committee Member until 2009. Mavis is still a member and going strong. In the sweltering summer of 1976 the procession started from near The Smithy Garage in Wall Hill Road – a longer and more arduous route than today. No marshals, no road closure orders, no police interference – and Jaguar workers leaving their Browns Lane site used to wind their windows down and throw coins to the walkers! […]

Earlsdon Festival – Apr/May 15

All set for the 22nd Earlsdon Festival!

Organisers of the 2015 Earlsdon Festival are working away behind the scenes to make sure this year’s event is the biggest and best yet.

The preparations for the Earlsdon Festival kick started with a competition to find a meaningful logo to be used in all promotional material related to the festival. After receiving a fantastic array of wonderful entries the judges had the unenviable task of short listing three entries, which went up for a public vote.

Following a two-week campaign Beth Baxter, aged 5, of Earlsdon Primary School, emerged as the winner with her eye-catching drawing of our trademark festival stall. Thanks to John E Wright, St Barbara’s Church, Earlsdon Methodist Church, Earlsdon Library, Earlsdon Primary School and Hearsall Primary School for their valuable partnerships as well as The Juice House and Coventry Photo Centre for providing the prizes to the winner and finalists.  […]

Once Upon A Christmas December 2014

Coventry’s Very Own Star Shines This Christmas A ray of hope really is flickering this Christmas as singing star Mark Rattray takes the stage to both host and perform at the Albany Theatre on December 19th and 20th in the Christmas Special ‘Once Upon a Christmas’. “Christmas is such a special time of year and the Albany Theatre is at the heart of performing arts in Coventry, so I couldn’t resist the invitation to come out of retirement and join some great local singers and dancers in helping show that the theatre must be saved,” said Rattray, who quit show business to serve the community as a Paramedic. Help at Hand Project Oct/Nov 2014

Help at Hand Finds A Perfect Match in North Warwickshire It was fate that brought them together, after a failed attempt to meet a man in Water Orton, Jaydene Biddulph was paired with a lady from Coleshill. This is a story about love, but not an ordinary love story, a story of a true friendship forged after Jaydene answered an advert by the Volunteer Centre North Warwickshire for a Help at Hand befriender. Jaydene had seen the advert several times in the local Gazette and cut it out four times. On the fourth time she finally contacted the centre and found out more about becoming a befriender for the Help at Hand project. The Volunteer Centre North Warwickshire’s Help at Hand project matches people in the local community with people who need help the most – sick, elderly or disabled. […]
