Three family ticket prizes are available. Please complete the competition entry form below by 4th May 2018.

Styvechale Open Gardens 2018

Styvechale Open Gardens takes place on Sunday 10th June, from 11am to 5pm. Tickets will be available on the day from West Orchard Reformed Church, The Chesils, Coventry, CV3 6FP.

This year there will be at least ten lovely suburban gardens open, including the winner of the Daily Mail National Garden Competition 2017, which was finally selected from over 2,000 original entries. Homemade refreshments will be available throughout the day, including hot sausage or bacon batches at lunchtime. Several of the gardens will have plants or crafts by local artists available for sale.

Each of the gardens is different in size and style offering imaginatively planted herbaceous borders, lovely roses, water features, fruit and vegetable patches, cottage garden planting, plants for shady areas and many relaxing seating areas; something for everyone. One of the big advantages of visiting ‘ordinary’ gardens is that they offer ideas about what can be done in our own gardens. Each year we are delighted when visitors send us pictures of their new water feature, tub or basket, planting or flower bed, inspired by something they have seen on their visit.

Styvechale Open Gardens is part of the NGS (National Garden Scheme) of private gardens open occasionally for charity. This year the local charity we are supporting is Coventry Myton Hospice. Last year’s event, held on a sunny June day, had over 400 visitors and raised £5,300 for local and national charities. Amongst the visitors were the winners of our Your Call Competition, so why not have a go this year and win one of three family tickets?

Styvechale Open Gardens is not an exclusive group. We are always happy to include new members. Last year two new gardens were open and this year there will be a further two. If you live in the Cheylesmore or Styvechale districts and would be interested in opening your garden for charity, even if only for one year, please feel free to make contact using the email address at the end of this article.

Last year, for the first time, two of our gardens had additional openings for organised groups such as U3A, WIs and Garden Clubs. These gardens will be available again this year for booking by appointment. Should any group be interested, please make initial contact using the email address below.

If you are free on Sunday 10th June, do call in on Styvechale Open Gardens. All the gardeners will make you feel very welcome and will be happy to chat to you about the plants or features in their gardens. We look forward to meeting old friends and welcoming new visitors.

Happy gardening.
